Well, another one to cross off the list for my IMDB Top 250 Challenge. And I think I can safely say it’s my least favorite one of those that I’ve watched so far since starting this in January. Another current film that has ended up in the Top 250 simply because it’s current & lots of people have voted for it at IMDB. What’s worse, though, is that this was actually a Best Picture winner?! (Ohhh… Am I going to be in trouble for saying this?). š
I’ll try to review this over the next few days. It won’t be a glowing review but I sometimes change my mind a little after thinking things over for a few days, which is why I try to never review movies right away.
I’ll try to be nicer than I was when I reviewed Trance. Honestly, at this point I think I enjoyed Trance a bit more. What’s going on Danny Boyle? Trainspotting & 28 Days Later are great. I think I’m not too bothered about still not having seen 127 Hours now…
Initial Rating: 6/10 (we’ll see if I change my mind over the next few days).
Am I alone in feeling this way about this movie?
Please, don’t judge 127 Hours based on Slumdog Millionaire. It’s very different. I don’t want to watch it again but it’s that different it’s worth to see. And I think it was the best choice to win the best picture oscar if you check what other films were nominated. Of course the best film of that year was The Dark Knight, but, well, you know academy…
Yeah, I looked up the other nominees that year & I see there weren’t great ones. Not that I can say for sure as I only saw Benjamin Button but even that was better than Slumdog. And it was the same year as Dark Knight? Yep, that’s the Academy for you – I don’t worship The Dark Knight as much as some people but it’s a FAR more worthy film than Slumdog. What a shame. I’ll try to give 127 Hours a chance, though… š
I’ve been reluctant to go watch Slumdog Millionaire. I’d had the opportunity to check it out but I never really want to. Don’t know why…
127 Hours is pretty good. Its a unique flick and James Franco is pretty awesome in it. Its a one man show so it really tests him as an actor.
I suppose I’ll watch 127 Hours at some point. Except for that one gross part… Pretty sure I can look away as we all know what happens. š I hate to judge Slumdog too harshly but I won’t be going out of my way to recommend it to anyone.
Yeah, I didn`t watch the gross part. haha!
I think this is a little overrated as well, though I still liked it. I enjoyed 127 Hours much more, so don’t give up on Boyle just yet.
Okay – that’s three people who think I should still give 127 Hours a shot. š I suppose I will at some point. Yes, “overrated” is what I kept thinking through the movie. I think I’d have liked it more if it hadn’t gotten all the recognition. Expectations were too high.
I hate Slumdog Millionaire with a passion. I wouldn’t even be able to give it a 6. That film made me think that I didn’t like Boyle as a director. But then I saw 127 Hours and I think it is utterly brilliant. It was on my top 5 for that year, so I reckon you should give it a chance.
Wow – glad I’m not alone! Although I didn’t hate it with a passion… Just didn’t like it all that much. Guess I better watch 127 Hours because you all seem to think that’s much better! š I won’t give up on Danny Boyle if it’s okay.
I still haven’t seen this one so thanks for bringing it down a peg or two š I won’t enter with really high expectations now!
Glad I could be of assistance. š You might like it, though!
I completely agree, Slumdog Millionaire is an overrated and extremely average film. It is a relief someone else thinks so! As for Danny Boyle, I felt Sunshine was underrated and Shallow Grave is tremendous fun!
I really like Sunshine & Shallow Grave. š The music in Sunshine was stunning. I’m glad so many seem to feel the same way as me about Slumdog! Thought people would be totally disagreeing with me. After a few days of thinking about it, it’s gone down a bit more in my estimation. Just such a disappointment.
