I’m sure a lot of bloggers will be doing something similar in the run up to Halloween. I’ve really gone off horror films the past several years as I’ve found modern horror, other than some foreign film exceptions, a major disappointment. So through October I’ll try to watch & do as many reviews of horror movies as I can.
What I’d really like to do when (and if I ever) have enough time is ask for film recommendations from all of you. But I wouldn’t want to disappoint anyone if I don’t have time to watch their films so, in the meantime, I’ve chosen some horror films that I’ve already discussed with fellow bloggers or I liked the sound of after reading their reviews. So these are the films I’ll (try very hard to!) review throughout October for my Halloween Horror Fest:
The Descent – Kim at Tranquil Dreams gave this a very positive review HERE
Insidious – Reviewed by Celluloid Junkie HERE and an Insidious 2 review from Silver Screen Serenade HERE
ParaNorman – Reviewed by Abbi of Where The Wild Things Are HERE
Grabbers – Reviewed by Eric of The IPC HERE
Berberian Sound Studio – Despite a disappointing review from Rhino’s Horror HERE, I still want to see this.
Pitch Black – Quite a few reviews of this with Riddick having just come out. I never made a start on these as I’m not a Vin Diesel fan but I suppose I can give this a go. Pitch Black reviewed by MovieRob HERE and by Dan The Man’s Movie Reviews HERE plus a Riddick review from Gregory Moss at Mossfilm HERE.
Dog Soldiers – If I get time & if I actually like The Descent. Review from Vinnieh HERE. 🙂
Plus I’ll review these which I’ve seen very recently but not yet reviewed:
From Beyond
Nosferatu (1922)
Sisters (AKA Blood Sisters)
The Innkeepers (In the middle of watching this, I actually paused to look it up at The IPC to see if Eric had reviewed it. Yep! And, luckily, he liked it. You can read his review HERE.)
And Maybe:
High Tension (AKA Switchblade Romance) if I manage to actually force myself to watch it….
What a great idea! Thanks for the pingback and for the great film suggestions. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on The Innkeepers & High Tension (if you watch it) 🙂
You’re welcome! 🙂 Yeah – I know High Tension is meant to be very violent & I’m a mega wuss about that so not sure about that one. Lol! I enjoyed The Innkeepers.
Hey lookie here!!
THANKS for the mentions!!
This sounds like good fun!
You’re welcome! 🙂 And I’m not sure a month of horror movies will be all that fun – I’m a wuss in my old age & a little stressed about it. Lol!
It will be fun for us!
Hey! Quick question! By what date do you want our Shitfest votes in? I’ll do that soon! Just dealing with a work week from hell at the moment.
Before Sunday if possible, please!
Cool. I can manage that. 🙂
I would hope so. I am sure your work crisis involves dealing with Thor’s butt in some fashion or other….
Oh man I wish! I’d happily accept the shitty f#%king pay & other crap those c*#ts give me if my job involved anything having to do with Thor’s butt! :-p
(Bad week) 😉
The Descent was scary for me. I saw it at the cineplex and it was loud and scary and crazy. I was stressed out watching it because at times it was so claustrophobic.
Luckily I’ll be seeing it on a much smaller screen, then. I’m terrible with claustrophobia!
AWESOME list. Some of them might be making their way to my Halloween reviews, too 😉 I’m excited to see what you have to say about these! And thank you so much for the mention!!
You’re welcome! Looking forward to reading all your reviews too. 🙂
The Descent is pure terror!
Okay. Not sure if that’s a good thing! I’ll watch it with all the lights on. 😉
Horror fest needs pure terror, and don’t you dare turn those lights off! Ruins the atmosphere 😀
Thanks for the pingback.
No problem 🙂
I’m looking forward to seeing what you think of Dog Soldiers.
I hope to get to that one. Kind of want to see it more than others I chose! (Like Pitch Black). Will let you know when I do the review. 🙂
Good luck. I am such a pussy I don’t think I could watch most of these.
Thanks. 🙂 I can’t say I’m necessarily looking forward to all of these!
well all I gots to say is I hope you enjoy The Descent. a surprisingly good horror film in my opinion. and i really don’t like modern horror, either. 🙂
I’ll let you know! 🙂 It’s certainly the one getting the most feedback. But now I find out I need to watch the “British version” as the American one had a totally different ending?! I hate that! No clue which one I actually have…
Hey table9 – thanks for the pingback! – A fantastic selection! I’m real keen to see Berberian Sound Studio – and Grabbers also comes highly recommended from a few people I’ve spoken to. 🙂
You’re welcome! 🙂 Those & The Descent are the ones I’m most looking forward to. 🙂
Check out some classic, intelligent horror – it sounds like that sort of thing will be right up your alley! The Innocents, Repulsion (http://ccpopculture.wordpress.com/2013/07/10/repulsion-1965/), Rosemary’s Baby, The Shining, Don’t Look Now … if you haven’t seen any of those, they’re highly recommended. Also, if you’re looking for a unique, clever modern horror film that’s very different, check out Triangle (http://ccpopculture.wordpress.com/2013/01/15/triangle-2009/) if you haven’t already!
Thanks! I’ve seen all except The Innocents & Repulsion, both of which I’d never heard of. But I’ll take your recommendations as I think Rosemary’s Baby, Don’t Look Now & especially The Shining (an all-time favorite) are some of the best horror movies ever! So you’re correct about them being right up my alley. 😉
Repulsion is part of Polanski’s “apartment” trilogy along with Rosemary’s Baby, so definitely check that out if you like the latter 🙂
Make sure you watch the British version of The Descent. The American one changed the ending!
Hmm. I didn’t know that! Shit – not sure which I have. Recorded it off TV years ago. I would assume it’s the British one!
