So yesterday I posted My Top Ten Movies Watched At Home In 2014 (you can see that list HERE). I often like the movies I watch at home each year even more than the ones I see in the cinema (theater, you Americans!). However, 2014 was actually a pretty damn good year for movies.
Here are My Top Ten Movies Of 2014 counting down from ten to one. Remember I’m in the UK so these go by UK release date – I’m aware a few of these were 2013 in America. Dammit – I hate when America gets stuff before us! At least we’re getting most of the Marvel stuff first, I guess. π I wrote a bit about each movie in my last list but I’ve not had time for this one – I’ve reviewed them all anyway if you want to click the links to see what I had to say about any of them. π
10. I Origins
8. Boyhood
7. The Babadook
6. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
3. Her
Honorable Mentions:
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Dallas Buyers Club
Gone Girl
You can see my full, sad, ranked list of movies watched in 2014 HERE. π
Great list. I have never heard of I, Origins before. I just thought it was a prequel to I, Frankenstein. But after reading that it was from the same writer and director of Another Earth. I will check it out.
Thank you! π I highly recommend I Origins if you liked Another Earth. Let me know what you think if you see it! And there’s a scene after the credits. π
This just jealousizes me. I saw one movie this year. ONE. I mean, yeah, it was Guardians, but still.
Hey! YOU! Hi! π I’m sooo behind on these blogs as I took a bit of a break over Xmas. Have you posted much?? I have to stop by! Yeah… It sucks missing out on good movies. But you’re indeed lucky to have seen Guardians. I loved that movie so much! π
I have not been too active for a while. There is a lot of life to live, and I haven’t had the time for anything I WANT to do β writing, arting, farting, etc.
No way! Not even enough time for farting?! That ain’t right….
Glad to see I Origins on this list. That’s something I really enjoyed as well but didn’t see many other people talking about it
I’m glad to hear from someone else who has seen it as well! π Yes, I don’t think many people have. What a shame. It just didn’t play in enough cinemas! I liked it a lot. π
Mcconaughey’s brilliant 5 minutes in the Wolf might have also been the cameo of the year!
Agreed! He was great in that! Loved that movie. π
Great list. I’m just in the middle of mine at the moment. Not too dissimilar
Thanks! π I’m really behind on comments. Have you posted yours? I’ll have to have a look!
No worries! Yeah, actually made it a top 11 as i’m not very disciplined…
We definitely have a few in common although I have gone off US release dates or I get too confused π
Lol. I know – so annoying how we get a lot in a different year. I keep an ongoing list each year otherwise I get confused. Okay, I’m sad… π
Great list! A couple I hadn’t heard of so will have to look them up, but some good picks.
Thanks! Which ones have you not heard of? I assume I Origins is one… I recommend all of these, of course. π
Some great picks in that mix, so I’ll forgive Wolf of Wall Street. π Thanks, as always for engaging with us at IndieEthos! My list is up, and once again will have many surprising films, this time including shorts you can stream on-line.
Hehe. Thanks! Aww… I loved Wolf Of Wall Street. π I’ll have to have a look at your list!
Great list…and some I need to check out in 2015. Thanks for posting.
Thank you! I highly recommend all of these. Of course. π

Hey! I did much better on these–I’ve seen 2-7 and all of your honorable mentions! Now I feel less awful. Bahaha. Nice choices, lady! Some of these were in my top ten stuffs, too! π
Thank you, Cara! You’ve not seen The Wolf Of Wall Street?? You really need to! π
I knooooow. I will. Someday. Lol.
The Wolf of Wall Street was just THE BEST!!! I loved it!
Got some great choices on here lady!
Thank you, Zoe! I know, right? Wolf Of Wall Street was great! And Leo was amazing. π
When is he NOT?! β€
Very true. π
Great picks! Guardians of the Galaxy was the highlight for me. π
Thank you! Totally agree with that – I LOVED it. Think it may be my very favorite comic book movie now. π
Great list! Agree with you on most of them and some I still need to see. I want to check out that I origins one… if only for the 1111’s… hahaha. I have also been debating going out of my comfort zone and watching the Babadook, so scary!
Thanks, Melissa! I honestly think you’d really like both of those. Seriously. π
Will do! We always agree. π
