My Top Ten Arnold Schwarzenegger Movies

IMG_1407

Happy Birthday to Arnold Schwarzenegger, who turns 68 today! Yes, 68! Wow – he looked pretty great in Terminator Genisys.

Being a girl, I’m not going to pretend like I worship Arnold Schwarzenegger or anything. However, I do really love a few of his films & always preferred him to other DUDES in “movies for DUDES” such as Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme & especially Steven Seagal (Ew).

So, in honor of Arnie’s birthday, here are My Top Ten Arnold Schwarzenegger Movies, counting down from ten (btw – I’ve not seen all of his movies):

10. Dave (I barely remember this but hated the remainder I’ve seen – True Lies, Jingle All The Way & Junior – so couldn’t include those!)

9. Commando (all I really remember is liking that Alyssa Milano was in this – maybe I should have just done a top five! ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

8. Terminator Genisys

7. Total Recall (although I don’t recall so much of this anymore – time for a re-watch!)

**There are a lot of big celebrity birthdays today (I almost did a Richard Linklater list instead) so here’s wishing a Happy Birthday to these celebrities as well:

Christopher Nolan (I’m sorry, Chris, but I hated Interstellar. The Prestige is excellent, though!)

Richard Linklater (I love you, dude, so I’m very sorry I trashed your movie Slacker on Monday)

Peter Bogdanovich (thank you for making Mask! it’s one of my top ten favorite movies but I always ALWAYS cry, dammit. Damn those map pins!!!!!)

Laurence Fishburne (you may be in a lot of movies but my personal favorite of yours is Searching For Bobby Fischer. it’s an excellent underrated film!)

Lisa Kudrow (hey Lisa, you were the best female character on Friends!)

Christine Taylor (you were great as Marcia in The Brady Bunch Movie! I’m sorry that you lost your hair in The Craft & that you have to be married to Ben Stiller)

Hilary Swank (you may have an Oscar but you’ll always be the girl in The Next Karate Kid to me)

Vivica A. Fox (Kill Bill rules! sorry you were killed first. oh wait… it’s a Tarantino movie… maybe it wasn’t all in chronological order)

Jean Reno (it’s not my favorite movie ever but you were great in Lรฉon)

Jaime Pressly (I loved you on My Name Is Earl!)

– Also: Happy Birthday to adorable Wil Wheaton yesterday and to sexy Michael Biehn, Kyle Reese himself from my favorite movie on this list, tomorrow. You’re 59 tomorrow, Michael, so I guess I’ll have to kiss you 59 times! Or is it 59 spanks?

  1. I’ll always have a soft spot for Schwarzenegger … His best flicks take me back to my childhood! Happy Birthday big guy … keep making movies ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Yeah… Even though I wouldn’t consider him a favorite actor of mine, I’ll also always have a soft spot for things like The Terminator & Predator. And Kindergarten Cop! Lol. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. You like Terminator Genisys more than True Lies? That’s… interesting, I suppose.

And yeah, in the actual chronology, The Bride kills O-Ren before Vernita (and most of the Crazy 88 and Gogo, and Buck and the trucker guy at the hospital, so really Vernita was like the 43rd person killed).

    • Yes – I hated True Lies, although I can’t remember why now. I enjoyed Genisys but I hate myself for it if it makes you feel any better? Lol. And thanks for clearing up that Kill Bill confusion – I was pretty sure you would. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I meant of people on her list so, like, she was second? Tarantino confuses me.

  3. Dave is the one with the lookalike president? I don’t remember him in that at all. True Lies was great. Jungle all the way not so much. He has made some great films. Great list. You know, I might do a quiz on him.

    • Lol. I don’t remember a thing about True Lies other than hating it. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Maybe I’ll give it another chance someday. Not seen Pumping Iron or Conan. I may like manly movies for a girl but I think I may draw the line at watching Pumping Iron! ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Definitely give it another look. Jamie Lee Curtis is fantastic in it. Bill Paxton and Tom Arnold are terrific comic relief. The action scenes are some of the best of Schwarzenegger’s career. It’s superior to Commando in almost every conceivable way. It’s not flawless, but if you like Schwarzenegger movies at all, it’s among his best. I’d go top 5. I’d be interested to hear what made you made if you can recall or if it angers you a second time. I’m going to say that you have to check out Conan. You just have to. It’s cheesy goodness. James Earl Jones turns into a snake! I didn’t expect to like Pumping Iron. But it’s a fascinating documentary. A really great look at the making of Schwarzenegger the movie star. If you drew a line, you should reconsider it.

      • Damn – Bill Paxton was in it?! I don’t remember that. I’d maybe watch it just for him! Pretty sure I’ll still like Commando more, though. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I DO want to see Conan someday, though….

      • Bill Paxton is fantastic in True Lies. Schwarzenegger plays a spy who pretends to have a boring job and lies to his wife about what he does. Paxton plays a used car salesman who pretends to be a spy to impress lonely housewives like Curtis. If you’re a Paxton fan, you have to give it another chance. He has never been funnier. Well, maybe Weird Science. Maybe.

  4. I’m surprised no one’s commented on you ranking The Terminator above T2 — most people put them the other way round. I remember a magazine did the same back when I was in school, and I repeated said opinion so I could be all unique or something. Naturally people disagreed and I realised I had nothing to say to back it up.

But enough about my pathetic childhood attempts at being interesting!

I’ll also be another vote for a True Lies re-watch. I thought it was a lot of fun.

    • I guess I better re-watch True Lies… Didn’t know I’d get in so much trouble for that one! ๐Ÿ˜‰ As for liking The Terminator more than T2, that’s easy for me to explain: Kyle Reese. One of my all-time biggest movie crushes. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Plus… I just usually like older movies a bit more and I like how “raw” The Terminator is compared to the more sleek T2. Or something. I guess. But mainly: Michael Biehn. ๐Ÿ˜‰
