I recently won a quiz put together by MovieRob for Cara’s blogiversary bash over at Silver Screen Serenade (you can see the post & quiz HERE). Anyway, I correctly named a bunch of lesser known Star Wars characters (because I’m a nerd who goes to things like Secret Cinema’s The Empire Strikes Back). π So my reward is choosing three movies for Cara & Rob to each watch. Here are my picks!:
I e-mailed Cara a little list of about ten movies asking her if she’d seen any of them and was surprised that she’d only seen one. Cara is young and still has plenty of classic movies to see so it was much easier picking three for her than for movie-watching-machine Rob. I’d like Cara to watch:
- The Terminator
- One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest
- EITHER: Cinema Paradiso (original version, not the Director’s Cut) or City Lights
*Cara – I’ll let you choose whether you’re in the mood for a silent film or the Italian film my blog name is based on – I love them both! They both have two of the most amazing endings ever. But next quiz I win, you’re watching a Studio Ghibli. π
Rob is very hard to choose a movie for because he’s seen everything worthwhile! He’s a movie-reviewing-maniac. So, Rob – I’m not doing this to be mean but you’re going to have to step out of your comfort zone and watch the very few movies on this planet that you possibly haven’t seen. π I know you’re unlikely to like these but, every movie to your taste that I thought of, I checked your blog and you’ve seen it! So… I’d like Rob to watch:
- A film directed by David Cronenberg that he’s not seen
- Seven Samurai if he’s not seen it (Rob – as a Star Wars fan, you should really see some Kurosawa if you haven’t)
- EITHER: One of the Jackass movies or Slither if not seen
*Rob – it has to be a movie you’ve not seen so, if you HAVE seen any of the above, let me know as I have a few alternatives. But you REALLY won’t like those… Lol. (For the record, I like all of the above)
There you go! Cara, I hope you enjoy my picks. And, Rob, I hope you don’t hate me. π
I’d just like to add that Kelli Maroney favorited my tweet yesterday about My Top Ten Drew Struzan Movie Art Pieces. Did you say “who”?! I forget you’re all only 20. Kelli Maroney from Fast Times At Ridgemont High & Chopping Mall & the AWESOME Night Of The Comet!!! π (I take every opportunity I can to mention the fact that she & Catherine Mary Stewart follow me on Twitter…) π
Thanks also to @videovangaurd @le0pard13 & @RobbinsRealm for retweeting it. Drew Struzan needs more recognition!
I’ve seen all except either Jackass movie. Some great picks for them to watch. I hope Videodrome is chosen. I just want as many people to see that as possible. I love that movie!
Lol. I chose Jackass as Rob said he’d never seen one when I reviewed Bad Grandpa. π I hope Videodrome is chosen as well – Rob would HATE it! Lol. (I love it. I like Cronenberg) π
Hahaa Jackass or Slither! If Rob hates Seven Samurai I’ll eat my proverbial hat.
Lol. He’s gonna HATE Jackass or Slither. I based that on him saying he’d never seen a Jackass movie when I reviewed Bad Grandpa. π And he hated Society, a movie I like, so he’ll hate Slither (which I also really like). He also hates foreign language films but I’m hoping he’ll appreciate Seven Samurai. I love it. But I maybe should have warned him it’s super long… π
Nah, like you say he’s a movie watching and movie reviewing machine, taking a bit of time to appreciate a classic will be good for him haha!
Exactly! π lol
Make them watch BAD GRANDPA!!! lol. It’s totally worth their time.
Hehe. I know! But, trust me – Rob is gonna HATE all my picks. π
Cara’s in for a treat with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest!!! WOO HOO!!!
I know!!!! I was nice to Cara. π Can’t believe she’s not seen that one. π
I can’t either – one of my favorites!
Mine too. π
Jump back!
Get the fuck out of town!
Dip me in shit and call me Peggy!
Erm…. Okay, then! π
That’s something my uncle used to say…
You know, it takes a lot of courage to get on here and do something that you know people will make fun of.
I know! Thanks! π Wait a second… What are you talking about?????????
Some Kelli Maroney fan you are…
Haha! I totally forgot I’d even added that bit at the end of the post! I get your quote now – I was expecting you to insult me over knowing all the Star Wars characters or something. I had to do that shit at pep rallies too…. π
I’ve actually never seen any of them, so u apparently chose well.
I’m gonna be on vacation next week with the family, so I’ll start doing my research when I get back the week of the 16th.
I know I can always count on you to give me great movies to watch, especially after you chose such great options in the past like Hardware and High Society π
Lol. I didn’t tell you to watch Hardware. I could’ve told you you’d hate that. π
R u sure u didnt suggest I watch it? U may have said I wouldn’t like it tho…. π
Hehe. No. I just gave it a really positive review because I love it. π You won’t like any of my picks but I’m hoping you will at least appreciate Seven Samurai. It’s amazing. And very very long…… Lol. Sorry. Worth it, though! π
How long? Now im scared because it isnt in English π
Umm…. Three & a half hours? Lol π
Seriously????? Maybe ill find a dubbed version π
Dubbed version not allowed!!!!!! π
yeah, like i’d tell u what language i watch it in π
Not sure if they’d dub a classic like that because anyone who’d watch such a classic dubbed would go straight to hell. Lol!
cant find a dubbed version, so u lucked out π
Lol!!! See? π
truth is, I’m actually excited to see it, no clue what i’ll chose regarding the other two tho π
guess i’m on my way…. see ya there π
HA! Let’s see… My last comment was HOURS ago so you might be finished with Seven Samurai by now…. π
On vacation. No movies
You actually take a vacation from movies?! Lol
Family is slightly more important to me than all u cinephiles π
How about The Dead Zone (1983)? I’m a king fan also and never saw this one.
Which of the jackass stuff do u recommend? …seriously I have no clue and really WANT to enjoy
Lol. I could’ve predicted you’d choose The Dead Zone (I was hoping you’d already seen it. Lol)! Yeah… It’s probably the one you should watch but you’re pretty much getting out of watching a Cronenberg with that one – it’s not very Cronenberg-y. Damn! π As for Jackass (or Slither!), I’ll be honest – you really won’t like them. I can’t say I remember one Jackass from another (except for Bad Grandpa) but Jackass 2 has the highest rating. (It’s really okay to watch those out of order)
So should I pick another cronenberg? Or do u wanna pick for me? Maybe I should watch jackass before the sequel since im weird and dont like to watch out of order if it isn’t necessary. Btw, im back from vacation and started watching movies again and I LOVED the new Terminator. Guess im the only one in this dimension who did tho π
You should just watch The Dead Zone – it’s the only one of his that there’s a chance of you liking. You’ll suffer enough with Jackass (or Slither!). π I actually liked the new Terminator, although I’m ashamed to admit it. Lol π
1 down, 2 to go. BTW, I LOVED it!!!! π
The Dead Zone?? Or Seven Samurai???
Not telling…. u’ll have to wait until Wednesday when I plan to review them all π
2 down, 1 to go…. I cant fuckin believe that u made me watch that shit…what a really fucked up movie!!!!
Hahaha! Jackass or Slither???? π
Not telling π
All I’ll say is get ready for some fierce and crude language on my site π
Well it’s definitely Jackass or Slither. Just be glad you didn’t choose Cronenberg’s The Brood. π lol
I may even make u blush with my crudeness in this one. π Did u really enjoy both of those movies that much? Or just punishing me?
Hmm. I enjoy the Jackass movies as a one-time watch but I can’t see ever watching one a second time. Slither, however, I do really love. But, yes – I was punishing you with those. lol π Seriously – be glad I didn’t choose The Brood! Bwahaha!
Shit. That means ull give me that one next time…. π
This is a super belated response, but yaaayyy movies!! I’m excited about these!! One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was actually going to be one of my Resolutions films, but this is even better! π Ooooh I have to choose between two?! Hmm. Well, I looked up these two to see what my library had, and it might just have the director’s cut of Cinema Paradiso…but I’ll investigate and let you know for sure. Thanks so much for doing this, lady!! And congrats on that tweet!! You are totes famous. π
Yaaaay! Cuckoo’s Nest is great, Cara. Love it! Have you read the book? I actually think the movie is better. Hmm… Yeah – if possible, it should be the original version of Paradiso because the Director’s Cut adds something in that ruined the film for people a bit (I’ve never watched that version but know what was added). As for Chaplin, old films like his tend to be on YouTube. Hope you enjoy these! They’re good – I promise. Well, you’ll find Terminator a bit dated. π You’d probably prefer the 2nd one but you gotta watch the first one first. π I like Rob’s movies too but only one is a “classic” – the three & a half hour long foreign language Seven Samurai. Rob is panicking about that. Mwahaha π
the length doesnt bother me, it’s the fact that i have to read subtitles for that time is what is daunting π
I have not read the book! I always feel a little guilty doing that–seeing the movie before reading the book–but given how much of a backlog of books I have, I know I’ll have to just get over it. Bahaha. But I’m glad, at least, that you think the movie’s better. I’m gonna pick up my stuff from the library tomorrow and see what they’ve got. Not sure if it’s the director’s cut they have or not. They have City Lights at the library, so nah brah. I’ma take it up a notch from YouTube. π Bahaha. I’m going to have to keep an eye on Rob’s responses to your films…
I actually read Cuckoo’s Nest after seeing the movie. It’s allowed SOMETIMES… π
Lol. I break that rule a lot…
GREAT picks! Dying to see what Cara thinks of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and what Rob thinks of Seven Samurai!
Lol. Well… Cara will hopefully love Cuckoo’s Nest like I do but Rob HATES subtitled movies. Which I was aware of when choosing one that’s three & a half hours long…. Lol! I love it, though. Excellent film! π
