My Movie Picks For MovieRob & Silver Screen Serenade’s Cara

I recently won a quiz put together by MovieRob for Cara’s blogiversary bash over at Silver Screen Serenade (you can see the post & quiz HERE). Anyway, I correctly named a bunch of lesser known Star Wars characters (because I’m a nerd who goes to things like Secret Cinema’s The Empire Strikes Back). πŸ˜‰ So my reward is choosing three movies for Cara & Rob to each watch. Here are my picks!:

  FOR CARA:

I e-mailed Cara a little list of about ten movies asking her if she’d seen any of them and was surprised that she’d only seen one. Cara is young and still has plenty of classic movies to see so it was much easier picking three for her than for movie-watching-machine Rob. I’d like Cara to watch:

  • The Terminator
  • One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest
  • EITHER: Cinema Paradiso (original version, not the Director’s Cut) or City Lights

*Cara – I’ll let you choose whether you’re in the mood for a silent film or the Italian film my blog name is based on – I love them both! They both have two of the most amazing endings ever. But next quiz I win, you’re watching a Studio Ghibli. πŸ˜‰

 FOR ROB:

Rob is very hard to choose a movie for because he’s seen everything worthwhile! He’s a movie-reviewing-maniac. So, Rob – I’m not doing this to be mean but you’re going to have to step out of your comfort zone and watch the very few movies on this planet that you possibly haven’t seen. πŸ˜‰ I know you’re unlikely to like these but, every movie to your taste that I thought of, I checked your blog and you’ve seen it! So… I’d like Rob to watch:

  • A film directed by David Cronenberg that he’s not seen
  • Seven Samurai if he’s not seen it (Rob – as a Star Wars fan, you should really see some Kurosawa if you haven’t)
  • EITHER: One of the Jackass movies or Slither if not seen

*Rob – it has to be a movie you’ve not seen so, if you HAVE seen any of the above, let me know as I have a few alternatives. But you REALLY won’t like those… Lol. (For the record, I like all of the above)

There you go! Cara, I hope you enjoy my picks. And, Rob, I hope you don’t hate me. πŸ˜‰

I’d just like to add that Kelli Maroney favorited my tweet yesterday about My Top Ten Drew Struzan Movie Art Pieces. Did you say “who”?! I forget you’re all only 20. Kelli Maroney from Fast Times At Ridgemont High & Chopping Mall & the AWESOME Night Of The Comet!!! πŸ™‚ (I take every opportunity I can to mention the fact that she & Catherine Mary Stewart follow me on Twitter…) πŸ˜‰

Thanks also to @videovangaurd @le0pard13 & @RobbinsRealm for retweeting it. Drew Struzan needs more recognition!

  1. I’ve seen all except either Jackass movie. Some great picks for them to watch. I hope Videodrome is chosen. I just want as many people to see that as possible. I love that movie!

    • Lol. I chose Jackass as Rob said he’d never seen one when I reviewed Bad Grandpa. πŸ˜‰ I hope Videodrome is chosen as well – Rob would HATE it! Lol. (I love it. I like Cronenberg) πŸ™‚

    • Lol. He’s gonna HATE Jackass or Slither. I based that on him saying he’d never seen a Jackass movie when I reviewed Bad Grandpa. πŸ˜‰ And he hated Society, a movie I like, so he’ll hate Slither (which I also really like). He also hates foreign language films but I’m hoping he’ll appreciate Seven Samurai. I love it. But I maybe should have warned him it’s super long… πŸ˜‰

  2. I’ve actually never seen any of them, so u apparently chose well.

I’m gonna be on vacation next week with the family, so I’ll start doing my research when I get back the week of the 16th.

I know I can always count on you to give me great movies to watch, especially after you chose such great options in the past like Hardware and High Society πŸ™‚

  3. This is a super belated response, but yaaayyy movies!! I’m excited about these!! One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was actually going to be one of my Resolutions films, but this is even better! πŸ™‚ Ooooh I have to choose between two?! Hmm. Well, I looked up these two to see what my library had, and it might just have the director’s cut of Cinema Paradiso…but I’ll investigate and let you know for sure. Thanks so much for doing this, lady!! And congrats on that tweet!! You are totes famous. πŸ˜‰

    • Yaaaay! Cuckoo’s Nest is great, Cara. Love it! Have you read the book? I actually think the movie is better. Hmm… Yeah – if possible, it should be the original version of Paradiso because the Director’s Cut adds something in that ruined the film for people a bit (I’ve never watched that version but know what was added). As for Chaplin, old films like his tend to be on YouTube. Hope you enjoy these! They’re good – I promise. Well, you’ll find Terminator a bit dated. πŸ˜‰ You’d probably prefer the 2nd one but you gotta watch the first one first. πŸ™‚ I like Rob’s movies too but only one is a “classic” – the three & a half hour long foreign language Seven Samurai. Rob is panicking about that. Mwahaha πŸ™‚

      • I have not read the book! I always feel a little guilty doing that–seeing the movie before reading the book–but given how much of a backlog of books I have, I know I’ll have to just get over it. Bahaha. But I’m glad, at least, that you think the movie’s better. I’m gonna pick up my stuff from the library tomorrow and see what they’ve got. Not sure if it’s the director’s cut they have or not. They have City Lights at the library, so nah brah. I’ma take it up a notch from YouTube. πŸ˜‰ Bahaha. I’m going to have to keep an eye on Rob’s responses to your films…

  4. GREAT picks! Dying to see what Cara thinks of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and what Rob thinks of Seven Samurai!

    • Lol. Well… Cara will hopefully love Cuckoo’s Nest like I do but Rob HATES subtitled movies. Which I was aware of when choosing one that’s three & a half hours long…. Lol! I love it, though. Excellent film! πŸ™‚
