Music Video Friday: Kim Wilde – Kids In America

This week’s music video is Kim Wilde’s Kids In America. Why? No reason, really. I just like the song. It’s so gloriously 1981 (or 1982 when released in America).

I find it weird that I never even knew this song until I moved to the UK over a decade ago & I wondered if it had not been released in America. So I of course looked it up on Wikipedia and saw that it got to number 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (it got to number 2 in the UK). So… I dunno. I think it just never made it to the radio in my little hick town! Which is a shame as I’d have loved it at the time.

So, while it doesn’t exactly have the nostalgia for me, I still think it’s a great, pure 80’s pop song. And it’s one of my daughter’s favorites to play with me on Just Dance on the Wii. 😉 The video is pretty bland, though! Here you go…

  1. I’m going to date myself when I tell you I remember this song first time around, in my grim days at grammar school. It’s still a tune and Kim Wilde is lovely, a major crush for me!

    • Lol. That’s okay – I always date myself! I’d remember this from the first time around too if it had been played where I grew up. 😉 She’s cute! Didn’t she do some gardening shows or something like that in the UK? I know she’s still around a bit.

  2. I’m loathe to admit it but I was around when this came out first time (just a kid, mind) and it was a top tune then and it is a top tune now. The follow up “Chequered love” is also a stormer! 🙂

    • Hmm. I don’t know that one! But have to admit I know very little by her (I’m assuming she was bigger in the UK. It’s weird I didn’t even know Kids In America until moving to the UK years after its release). I know men had/have a big crush on her! She’s lovely in this video. : )
