Happy (belated) Birthday to Diane Lane, who turned 51 on January 22nd. I’ll be honest – I never really noticed Diane Lane that much when I was younger as she was mostly in movies that were just a little bit too old for me. Heck, I’ve only just watched Streets Of Fire and The Outsiders for the very first time this past year! Shame on me.
I think that I first started paying attention to her after the movies Unfaithful and Under The Tuscan Sun. Although I’m not normally into movies aimed at “middle-aged women” (even though I AM one), I think I just really appreciated how sexy the late-thirties Lane was in those films. And she’s still gorgeous at 51! Hollywood has always been obsessed with youth, especially when it comes to actresses, so I love seeing those such as Lane still in the acting game.
I decided to fully explore her older films after watching and thoroughly enjoying the obscure Ladies And Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains. So I’ve now seen just over ten of her films, which means that two not-very-good ones are included at 9 & 10.
So here are My Top Ten Diane Lane Movies, counting down to my favorite film (not ranked by performance. no, I’m not saying I prefer her as a cartoon – number 1 is just an excellent film). š
10. Man Of Steel
4. Ladies And Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains
1. Inside Out
You are not middle aged! You’re one of the youngest people I know. I never realised that she was Inside Out or The Perfect Storm. She really was gorgeous in Unfaithful and Under the Tuscan Sun.
Aww. Thanks, Alex. You’re so sweet. š Yes – she was super hot in those films! Hooray for middle aged women! š
I didn’t even know she was in most of these. lol
Well, then I’m glad I could enlighten you! š lol
Ah man, Inside Out. Great stuff!
Indeed! Such an excellent film. Pixar sure do know how to make the best films! š
Trumbo is probably my favourite film of hers but Unfaithful is my fave her parts. Nice list, I have to check some of those older ones.
Thanks! Unfaithful is pretty underrated – it’s a good film. I’ve not seen Trumbo but I really should! Yes – you should check out some of her older stuff. š
She is an awesome actress and a lovely person too. She has been in about 60 films / tv shows. Very talented, very prolific, very classy, and sadly, very very underrated and overlooked. I HOPE some of her future films are BIG successes for her. Great actress. Happy birthday Diane Lane!
Agreed – she’s an underrated actress who certainly doesn’t seem to have ever really been noticed. What a shame. I’d love to see her get the perfect role now that would finally get her some more attention. And she really is lovely. š
Can’t argue with that!
Thanks! Gotta love Inside Out, even if she’s a cartoon in it… š
I forgot she was in some of these films. Definitely enjoy Inside Out and The Perfect Storm. She was also quite good in Secretariat.
Yeah – she’s not always noticed. I think she’s often given small parts. Would be good to see her in bigger roles! I did actually see Secretariat but didn’t include it as I really don’t remember it! š
It’s certainly a bigger role for her. Might be worth a rewatch, if you can spare the time.
Unfaithful is such a good film, need to re-watch it one day! I love The Outsiders as a book, but never seen the film and didn’t even know Diane Lane was in it!
Yeah, Unfaithful was actually a surprisingly good film! The first film where I really “noticed” Lane finally, I think. I can’t believe I only JUST read The Outsiders & watched the movie for the first time a couple of years ago considering the movie is “my generation”. It’s a Francis Ford Coppola movie & certainly worth checking out if you’re a fan of the book! It doesn’t have the best reviews but I don’t know why – it’s fine. Follows the book well too from what I remember. Lane is Cherry (the only female character in the book, really). She’s gorgeous in it with her red hair.

Diane Lane is so beautiful and oh so talented. She is a stunning lady who you can’t take your eyes off.
She is! Gorgeous. And I think she got more beautiful as she got older.
I love how natural she is.
