Happy Birthday (soon) to Cate Blanchett, who turns 48 on Sunday.
I like Cate Blanchett (but not as much as Val Kilmer does…). Putting together this top ten, though, I see I’ve missed loads of her biggest starring films! Hmm. Well, I guess I can add to this list if I see some more.
I’m going to be annoying & include an uncredited cameo as well as her doing the voice on an English dub of a foreign film since those are two movies I like. I’ve listed the biggest of the many I’ve not seen so I’ll gladly take recommendations on what to watch of those. 🙂
So here are My Top Ten Cate Blanchett Movies that I’ve seen, ranked from least favorite to favorite (not by performance). She’s a great actress but I probably can’t choose the best performance until I’ve seen more of her films.
The Remainder That I’ve Seen:
Pushing Tin
The Gift
Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
How To Train Your Dragon 2
TOP TEN:
10. The Talented Mr. Ripley (but I could really do with re-watching this)
9. TIE: Notes On A Scandal & Carol
8. Cinderella
5. Hot Fuzz
4. The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
2. Ponyo
1. The Lord Of The Rings & Hobbit Films
Some I’ve Not Seen:
An Ideal Husband, Bandits, Charlotte Gray, The Shipping News, Veronica Guerin, The Missing, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, Babel, The Good German, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, I’m Not There, Robin Hood, Blue Jasmine, The Monuments Men, Truth
One for Val:
Great list! Notes on a Scandal is probably my favorite performance of hers. That would be my #1
Thanks! She really was great in Notes On A Scandal – I don’t think that film got a lot of attention. I originally had it higher than Carol. She’s great in both. : )
How is she 48???? She looks about 35 at the most! Also she is incredible in Blue Jasmine.
I know!!!! It’s unfair. And how is Amy Adams 42? I suppose I should be happy for them & their youthful beauty. Or something. 😉 lol. Yeah, I really should’ve watched Blue Jasmine before making this list… I will at some point. : )
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou is a hilarious little film – Blanchett is great
I have a feeling that Thor: Ragnarok is going to crash into your Top 5
She is 1 of th few movie stars around today I wld pay good money to watch!
Great List! What else cld b @ No 1?!
Cheers!
Thanks! Oh, I expect Ragnarok to definitely make this list… Love the trailer! And it looks like she’s gonna kick ass in it. : )
Good list, but I am shocked that I don’t find here Blue Jasmine. Whether people seen it or not it must be there! 🙂 Not only there, but at number 1. I also would have included at least a mention of Oscar & Lucinda, her performance there was so good.
Ha! Well, yeah – a few people have mentioned Blue Jasmine. Guess I better watch it now to see where it would go on the list. 😉 Hmm… Not heard of Oscar & Lucinda, though. Will have to look into that one! 🙂
When people have not heard of Oscar & Lucinda, I always refer them to my review 🙂 : https://dbmoviesblog.wordpress.com/2013/03/24/oscar-and-lucinda-review/
I like the sound of it! I’ve added it to my “Watchlist”. 🙂
I also recommend to watch Blue Jasmine. She’s amazing in it.
Okay – that’s the one people keep mentioning. Guess I better watch it now! ; ) Am curious to see where it would be on this list… 🙂
I am glad The Aviator was high up on your list. She knocked it out of the park as Katharine Hepburn (whose birthday was yesterday!). She is impeccable in every one of her roles. She plays a very small role in The Shipping News, but she is the most convincing of the cast in my opinion.
Yep – she was great in The Aviator. As she is in everything, of course. : ) I’ve always wanted to see The Shipping News. Will have to add it to my list to watch soon (along with Blue Jasmine, apparently). 🙂

I adore Cate Blanchett. She’s stunning and super talented. She displays an astonishing versatility that is hard to forget.
Yep! She’s never been a very favorite of mine but she’s definitely grown on me. She’s very good. 🙂
I just love her.
Awesome picks! Carol and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is one of my all-time favorites. I completely forgot that she had that small part in Hot Fuzz. She’s such a chameleon.
Thanks! 🙂 Those two are great films & Carol is definitely one of her best roles. Ha – I think plenty forget about that Hot Fuzz cameo. Love it! Shows she has a good sense of humor. 😊
