TV SHOWS WATCHED

Star Wars: Visions: S2 E1-5 – Can’t say I’ve loved any of the episodes so far. Clearly, as we’ve still not finished watching this season yet. Season 1 was much better.

Grey’s Anatomy: S19 E15-20 – As I’ve said many times, I have a love/hate relationship with this show. For some reason, I’ve quite liked this season. Which is probably an unpopular opinion? I assume people don’t like there being so little of the “main” characters anymore but maybe it’s time to move on? Although, annoying as she is, they need to keep Meredith to the end. The show is in her name – would be stupid to continue without her. But I’m perfectly fine seeing less of her this season.

The Amazing World Of Gumball: S1, some of S2? – Realised this is still available with one of our streaming package thingymabobs. Think we’re onto season 2 now, not sure. Is just a fun, short thing to stick on in the background for daughter to reminisce over as this was such a big favorite of hers when a bit younger. Man, this show is seriously fucking nuts. I love weird kids’ cartoons.

The Muppets Mayhem: S1 E1 – Thought the first episode was fun. Family wasn’t feeling it so I might finish it on my own eventually. But I’m in no rush as there are much better shows I’d rather check out.

American Born Chinese: S1 E1 – None of us were really feeling this one at all, so unlikely to continue watching. Which is a shame, as the trailer made it look like it could be pretty good.

BOOKS READ

Watership Down by Richard Adams – Finally finished this! I’m not in the mood for reading lately so it’s taking me forever to finish a book as I only read in short bursts here & there. Seriously, though, this was one LONG book about bunny rabbits! But I loved it. It really is great & I can see why it’s a classic. All the stuff with General Woundwort was intense. Want to re-watch the film now (which I watched as a Blind Spot film a few years ago). I loved that too but think I’d appreciate it even more now. The characters are so strong & I always like getting “a story within a story” so all the many stories told throughout the book were fantastic. I adore Hazel & Fiver. And Bigwig. Great stuff. Glad I finally got around to this one that’s been sitting on my shelf for years. – 4.5/5

Currently reading The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes by Suzanne Collins (because I really like The Hunger Games books – I make no apology! Enjoying this one so far too).

BLOG PLANS FOR THE COMING MONTH

Finally signed up for Apple TV for a bit to catch up on the movies I’ve missed and on Ted Lasso, which I’m almost done binging. Looking forward to Tetris. Cha Cha Real Smooth was decent.

Current Movies I Want To See:

Want to see Across The Spider-Verse & Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret ASAP. Think I’m too late for Margaret. And The Boogeyman since I watch absolutely every adaptation of Stephen King that I can. And Air, which has been on Amazon Prime for a while now. And the new Miyazaki film – I wonder when the U.K. will get that and if I’ll have the opportunity to see it somewhere?!?!?

I also can’t believe I want to see the Barbie movie. I had zero interest in that at first & don’t think Gerwig is anything special & I’m not a very girly girl (although I did like my Barbies as a kid). But for some reason I really want to see it now. The clips & trailers have been interesting.

Guess it makes sense to finish this post with Art Garfunkel’s Bright Eyes from Watership Down…

Halloween Ends (2022) Review

Halloween Ends (2022)

Directed by David Gordon Green

Based on Characters by John Carpenter & Debra Hill

Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, Rohan Campbell, Will Patton, Kyle Richards, James Jude Courtney

Plot Synopsis: (via Wikipedia)
The plot follows Corey Cunningham, a young man who falls in love with Laurie Strode’s granddaughter while a series of events, including crossing paths with Michael Myers, render him a murderous outcast.

My Opinion:

I’m not a massive Halloween series fan, although I’ve watched them all other than Resurrection & the second Rob Zombie one as I’d suffered enough through his first piece of shit (I’m an Elm Street girl). I do think the 1978 Halloween is a horror classic, with one of the all-time best music themes, but I could live without the rest. Well, the second film is okay. Having said that, I thought Halloween Ends wasn’t terrible? It’s still a pretty rubbish horror film just like all the other Halloween sequels but it’s certainly not the worst in this entire series.

Of this specific trilogy, I think the first film is actually quite good & the best by FAR but I liked Ends more than Kills. At least it tried something different? But I’m guessing that hardcore Halloween fans weren’t fond of this one? Hell, Michael Myers is barely even in it! But that’s fine with me since I think he’s kind of a shit villain anyway. He’s boring. So I liked what they tried to do with the character of Corey (even though he was annoying). And the opening scene was good.

But I’ll still forget this film a year from now, the way I barely even remember Kills now. It just didn’t feel like much actually happened in this film. It was very anticlimactic. And it’s nice that Laurie Strode is baking pumpkin pies & talking about cherry blossoms & shit but that was also pretty silly. Meh. Whatever. To be honest, I don’t know how I’d except them to “end” these films. Would like to think Strode could indeed get a happy ending at least. But you know they’ll make more of these fucking movies…

I reviewed Halloween 1 through 6 here for Halloween a couple of years ago. Definitely like “The Loomis Timeline” (or whatever they call each of these) the most. Too bad these three David Gordon Green films didn’t go well after a strong start in 2018.

My Rating: 6/10
